The speech disease known as stuttering, sometimes known as stammering or childhood-onset fluency disorder, causes frequent and serious issues with normal speaking fluency and flow. Stutterers are aware of what they want to say yet struggle to express it. They might, for instance, rephrase or lengthen a word, a syllable, or a consonant or vowel sound. Or they can halt when speaking because they've come to a difficult word or sound.
